Personally, I see alot of myself in Allura, and if you want my opinion, the entire cast is poorly portrayed. Especially Allura and Lance, who have alot of potential for character development. I personally think, as I write her, Lance has a good fighting chance for Allura. Voltron is a Japanese story originally, and I'm trying to tap back into it, because, believe me--it's FAR more enjoyable. And, the Keith/Allura pairing is so boring...so...so...American. (I better shut up w/ that term. I'm a highly conservative and patriotic Amercian citizen, although I'm only 15 going on 16...) Lemme explain:
Robotech...the first part, I mean...is a dubbed version of Macross. It was WONDERFULLY written, and with the exception on Minmei, was very well dubbed.
The best part about this series is---which also makes it an undying classic throughout the decades--that you're POSITIVE that Hikaru (Rick) is going to get with Minmei, even though the lonely Misa (Lisa)
is in love with him.
After all, Hikaru obviously loves Minmei. that's what the whole series is about! But in the LAST episode, Hikaru chooses the lonely Misa as the one he loves. Over the beautiful, famous, talented, already-heartbroken, leading female Minmei! THAT is writing. THAT is why expert-Otakus are proud of Macross/Robotech, but tend to shudder at Voltron.
And that's also why there's been Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love?, Macross II: Lovers Again (which sucks because there is NO reference to any of the original characters), Macross Plus (which was a huge success in the US), and Macross 7, which JUST ended (and there will be no new Macross series. ::Sob!!::)
Twenty-five years, and still having a following! IMHO, it's story-writing like THAT which makes a saga last forever.
That was long enough, wasn't it?
